Difference between Beeching cuts and Light railway

Beeching cuts vs. Light railway

The Beeching cuts (also Beeching Axe) were a reduction of route network and restructuring of the railways in Great Britain, according to a plan outlined in two reports, The Reshaping of British Railways (1963) and The Development of the Major Railway Trunk Routes (1965), written by Dr Richard Beeching and published by the British Railways Board. A light railway is a railway built at lower costs and to lower standards than typical "heavy rail": it uses lighter-weight track, and is more steeply graded and tightly curved to reduce civil engineering costs.
