The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila (Archidioecesis Manilensis; Arkidiyosesis ng Maynilà; Arquidiócesis de Manila) is the archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Metro Manila, Philippines, encompassing the cities of Manila, Makati, San Juan, Pasay (except for Villamor Air Base and Newport City which is under the jurisdiction of the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines), and Mandaluyong. A barangay ((abbreviated as Brgy. or Bgy.), formerly referred to as barrio, is the smallest administrative division in the Philippines and is the native Filipino term for a village, district or ward. In metropolitan areas, the term often refers to an inner city neighbourhood, a suburb or a suburban neighborhood. The word barangay originated from balangay, a kind of boat used by a group of Austronesian peoples when they migrated to the Philippines.
