Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum (حمدان بن راشد أل مكتوم,; born 25 December 1945) is the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the Minister of Finance and Industry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is the second son of the late ruler Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum (1912–1990, r. 1958–1990). Sheikh Hamdan received his early education in the Emirates then attended Bell School of Languages, Cambridge. He and his brother, Sheikh Mohammed, control the state-owned Dubai Ports World along with the Dubai Holding Co. and its many subsidiary companies which have wide-ranging investments in hotels, apartment buildings, banking and finance, and healthcare facilities. Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been the head of the UAE's delegation at the International Monetary Fund and the OPEC Fund.

Intercontinental (horse)

Intercontinental (foaled 2000 in England) is a Thoroughbred Champion racehorse who competed in England, France, and the United States. Bred and raced by Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms, she was sired by Danehill, a multiple Champion sire in England, Ireland, and France and the most successful sire in the history of Australian Thoroughbred racing. Her dam was the outstanding broodmare Hasili, whose sire Kahyasi won the 1988 Irish and Epsom Derbys. Intercontinental is a full sister to Cacique, Banks Hill, and Champs Elysees. Based in France with trainer André Fabre, Intercontinental made three starts at age two. She won two races and was third in the Group One Grand Critérium. At age three in 2003, she made six starts at racecourses in France and England. Her only win came in the Listed Prix Amandine for three-year-old fillies at Deauville-La Touques Racecourse. She notably ran third to winner Russian Rhythm in the Group One 1,000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse. At age four, Intercontinental was sent to Robert Frankel, Juddmonte Farms' trainer in the United States. For the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer, Intercontinental began 2004 with a win in the Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky. She also won the Just A Game Breeders' Cup Handicap at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and got her first Grade 1 win at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California in the Matriarch Stakes.

Paul Mellon

Paul Mellon (June 11, 1907 – February 1, 1999) was an American philanthropist and an owner/breeder of thoroughbred racehorses. He is one of only five people ever designated an "Exemplar of Racing" by the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. He was co-heir to one of America's greatest business fortunes, derived from the Mellon Bank created by his grandfather Thomas Mellon, his father Andrew W. Mellon, and his father's brother Richard B. Mellon. In 1957, when Fortune prepared its first list of the wealthiest Americans, it estimated that Paul Mellon, his sister Ailsa Mellon-Bruce, and his cousins Sarah Mellon and Richard King Mellon, were all among the richest eight people in the United States, with fortunes of between 400 and 700 million dollars each (around $ and $ in today's dollars). Mellon's autobiography, Reflections in a Silver Spoon, was published in 1992. He died at his home, Oak Spring, in Upperville, Virginia, on February 1, 1999. He was survived by his wife, Rachel (a.k.a. Bunny), his children, Catherine Conover (first wife of John Warner) and Timothy Mellon, and two stepchildren, Stacy Lloyd III and Eliza, Viscountess Moore.
