Duisburg–Quakenbrück railway

The Duisburg–Quakenbrück railway is a former inter-regional German railway, built by the Rhenish Railway Company (RhE) from Duisburg in the western Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia to Quakenbrück in Lower Saxony on the border of the former Grand Duchy of Oldenburg. Some sections of it are now disused. The railway ran from Duisburg via Oberhausen West, Bottrop Nord, Dorsten, Coesfeld, Steinfurt and Rheine to Quakenbrück where it connected with the network of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg State Railways. The majority of the line is now closed. The southern section to Bottrop is now used only for freight. The section between Dorsten and Coesfeld is still used for passengers as timetable route 424. Regionalverkehr Münsterland (RVM) operates freight traffic over the section between Rheine and Spelle. Ratingen Ost station

Ratingen Ost is a station situated in Ratingen in the Germany state of North Rhine Westphalia and is a station of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn. It was opened in 1872 as the Ratingen station of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company (Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, BME) along with the Ruhr Valley Railway. After the nationalisation of the BME, it received its current name in the 19th century. The station is located between the Ratingen districts of Ost (east) and Mitte (central) and is mainly used by commuters into Düsseldorf. From the former freight yard, the now dismantled railway sidings ran to the nearby firms of the Balcke-Dürr company and the Wilhelm Pulch foundry and steelworks. The former freight yard was replaced by a station parking area. Ratingen Ost station is served by line S6 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn at 20 minute intervals and has an island platform with its entrance at the northern end of the platform. There is direct access from the bus station, which is served by ten bus lines, as well as the parking area in Josef-Schappe-Straße. Until the conversion for the S-Bahn, the station had a home platform (next to the station building) and two island platforms.

The Upper Ruhr Valley Railway (Obere Ruhrtalbahn) is a 138-kilometre-long, non-electrified line from Schwerte (Ruhr) station) through the Hochsauerland (high Sauerland) to Warburg in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is the most southerly of the east-west lines that run from the Ruhr to eastern Germany and it connects the rural Hochsauerlandkreis with the Ruhr. The line is included in the German railway timetable as line 435, which continues on the line from Schwerte to Hagen, which is part of the Hagen–Hamm railway. The Upper Ruhr Valley Railway is named after the Ruhr valley, which it follows between Olsberg and Schwerte. Long-distance services ran on this route until the 1980s but it is now only served by Regional-Express services on the Hagen–Schwerte–Warburg–Kassel) and Dortmund–Fröndenberg–Bestwig (–Winterberg/Willingen) every hour and there are also some extra services in the peak hours and special services.
