Difference between Flat memory model and NX bit

Flat memory model vs. NX bit

Flat memory model or linear memory model refers to a memory addressing paradigm in which "memory appears to the program as a single contiguous address space." The CPU can directly (and linearly) address all of the available memory locations without having to resort to any sort of memory segmentation or paging schemes. The NX bit (no-execute) is a technology used in CPUs to segregate areas of memory for use by either storage of processor instructions (code) or for storage of data, a feature normally only found in Harvard architecture processors.

Similarities between Flat memory model and NX bit

Flat memory model and NX bit have 8 things in common (in Unionpedia): Central processing unit, Intel 80286, Intel 80386, Memory segmentation, Operating system, Pentium, Physical Address Extension, X86.

Central processing unit

A central processing unit (CPU) is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions.
