Air Commodore Alan Christopher "Al" Deere, (12 December 1917 – 21 September 1995) was a New Zealander fighter pilot with the Royal Air Force during World War 2, and the author of the war memoir Nine Lives. The New Zealand Railways Department, NZR or NZGR (New Zealand Government Railways) and often known as the "Railways", was a government department charged with owning and maintaining New Zealand's railway infrastructure and operating the railway system.
