Difference between EBCDIC and Plain text

EBCDIC vs. Plain text

Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code (EBCDIC) is an eight-bit character encoding used mainly on IBM mainframe and IBM midrange computer operating systems. In computing, plain text is the data (e.g. file contents) that represent only characters of readable material but not its graphical representation nor other objects (images, etc.). It may also include a limited number of characters that control simple arrangement of text, such as line breaks or tabulation characters.

Similarities between EBCDIC and Plain text

EBCDIC and Plain text have 9 things in common (in Unionpedia): ASCII, Character encoding, Code page, Control character, IBM, Newline, Tab key, Unicode, UTF-16.

ASCII

ASCII, abbreviated from American Standard Code for Information Interchange, is a character encoding standard for electronic communication.

Code page

In computing, a code page is a table of values that describes the character set used for encoding a particular set of characters, usually combined with a number of control characters.

Control character

In computing and telecommunication, a control character or non-printing character is a code point (a number) in a character set, that does not represent a written symbol.

Newline

Newline (frequently called line ending, end of line (EOL), line feed, or line break) is a control character or sequence of control characters in a character encoding specification, e.g. ASCII or EBCDIC.
