Francesco "Frank" Scalice (31 March, 1893 – June 17, 1957) (also spelled Scalise) also known as Don Ciccio and Wacky, was an Italian-American mobster active in New York City, who led the future Gambino crime family from 1930 to 1931 and was underboss from 1951 to 1957. The National Crime Syndicate was the name given by the press to the multi-ethnic, loosely connected American confederation of several criminal organizations, a confederation that mostly consisted of the closely interconnected Italian-American Mafia and Jewish mob but also included to various lesser extents Irish-American criminal organizations and other ethnic crime groups.
