George the Hagiorite, George of Athos, Giorgi Mtatsmindeli or Giorgi Atoneli (გიორგი მთაწმინდელი, გიორგი ათონელი) (1009 – June 27, 1065) was a Georgian monk, calligrapher, religious writer, and translator, who spearheaded the activities of Georgian monastic communities in the Byzantine Empire. Nicopsis, Nikopsis, or Nikopsia (Νικόψις; ნიკოფსი, ნიკოფსია) was a medieval fortress and town on the northeastern Black Sea coast, somewhere between the towns of Tuapse, Russia, and New Athos, Abkhazia/Georgia.
