Laurel forest, also called laurisilva or laurissilva, is a type of subtropical forest found in areas with high humidity and relatively stable, mild temperatures. The UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has designated 168 World Heritage Sites in all of the 17 sovereign countries (also called "state parties") of Southern Europe: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, and Vatican City as well as one site in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar.

Extremadura
