Difference between Microarchitecture and Streaming SIMD Extensions

Microarchitecture vs. Streaming SIMD Extensions

In computer engineering, microarchitecture, also called computer organization and sometimes abbreviated as µarch or uarch, is the way a given instruction set architecture (ISA), is implemented in a particular processor. In computing, Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) is an SIMD instruction set extension to the x86 architecture, designed by Intel and introduced in 1999 in their Pentium III series of processors shortly after the appearance of AMD's 3DNow!.

Similarities between Microarchitecture and Streaming SIMD Extensions

Microarchitecture and Streaming SIMD Extensions have 7 things in common (in Unionpedia): Central processing unit, Context switch, Floating-point unit, Instruction pipelining, Instruction set architecture, Intel, SIMD.

Central processing unit

A central processing unit (CPU) is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions.

Context switch

In computing, a context switch is the process of storing the state of a process or of a thread, so that it can be restored and execution resumed from the same point later.

Floating-point unit

A floating-point unit (FPU, colloquially a math coprocessor) is a part of a computer system specially designed to carry out operations on floating point numbers.
