Difference between Calpain and Protease

Calpain vs. Protease

A calpain is a protein belonging to the family of calcium-dependent, non-lysosomal cysteine proteases (proteolytic enzymes) expressed ubiquitously in mammals and many other organisms. A protease (also called a peptidase or proteinase) is an enzyme that performs proteolysis: protein catabolism by hydrolysis of peptide bonds.

Similarities between Calpain and Protease

Calpain and Protease have 11 things in common (in Unionpedia): Amino acid, Apoptosis, Catalysis, Coagulation, Cysteine, Enzyme, MEROPS, Papain, PH, Proteolysis, The Proteolysis Map.

Amino acid

Amino acids are organic compounds containing amine (-NH2) and carboxyl (-COOH) functional groups, along with a side chain (R group) specific to each amino acid.
